• Place the stone aggregate into the wet concrete top surface. DO NOT float the stone out of sight!!
  
• Darby trowel the concrete surface to a uniform level.
  
• Spray retarder uniformly onto the prepared area.
  
• Follow procedures as previously outlined.
  
  

APPLICATION OF RETARDER:

• Use low-pressure sprayer (plastic preferred).
• Spray uniformly (approximately 200 to 300 sq.ft./gallon) until surface has a complete hiding coat; do not apply too sparingly. It is not necessary to cover the area during curing.
  
  

REMOVAL OF RETARDED MATRIX:

• Wait at least six hours, or up to 24 hours.
  
• Brush out or water flush (using high-pressure) out the surface to its full depth.
  
• If concrete is too green, remove retarded matrix very carefully, or wait a few more hours before washing out. When using the lightest etches during very warm weather, it may be best to remove the matrix the same day.
  
• Tools and utensils may be cleaned with water.
  

SELECTION OF RETARDER STRENGTH

Prepare small sample panels to determine most suitable strength to obtain desired depth of etch. Ten grades are available. IMPORTANT: Arcal X-POZ must be applied to a thoroughly wet top concrete surface. For best results, spray retarder uniformly over surface after first water rises to the surface and is screeded off.

CONCRETE BATCH “WHOLE-MIX” PRODUCTION METHOD:

• Place concrete in form or mould.
  
• Screed away excess water after initial water rise.
  
• Hand seed extra stone into top surface to fill any voids and to help level the top surface.
  
• Steel trowel the surface to a uniform level.
  
• Take a darby trowel and go over surface to open concrete pores to prepare the surface for retarder application on the wet concrete surface.
  

PRODUCTION METHOD OF “HAND-SEEDING”:

• Hold the placing down approximately 1/8” so that the final level will not be too high.
